Thoth or Djehoety was the Egyptian god of the moon, magic, the calendar, writing and wisdom. According to mythology, he had invented writing and passed on that knowledge to mankind. He acted in the underworld when weighing the heart, noting Maät's verdict and bringing the deceased to Osiris. The baboon with the beautiful face was an epithet for Thoth. He was regarded as the 'self-conceived' and 'self-produced' who was One. His Egyptian name Djehoety or Tehuti is derived from the oldest name for 'ibis': djehoe / tehu.
