Clio Greek Muse of History
Clio or Kleio is one of the nine muses in Greek mythology. Her name means "proclaimer." She is the muse of glorification through song, of history writing, and of epic poetry. Her attributes are a scroll or a chest of books. She wrote down the names and deeds of great heroes in the world and preserved them. Occasionally, she is also depicted with a water clock, which symbolizes the passage of time. Like her eight sisters, she is the daughter of the supreme god Zeus and the Titan Mnemosyne. Clio bore a son, Hyacinth. His father was Pierus, king of Macedonia. She is also depicted with a scroll and a stylus, seated at a table.
