Pegasus is the famous winged horse from Greek mythology, born from the blood of Medusa when the hero Perseus beheaded her; he was tamed with golden reins, helped the hero Bellerophon defeat the Chimaera, but later threw the hero off when Bellerophon flew too high towards Olympus; after that, Pegasus became a servant of Zeus and the bearer of his thunderbolts. His hoofbeat on Mount Helicon created the Hippocrene spring, which inspired poets.
