In Greek mythology, Hypnos is the god of sleep. He is the twin brother of Thanatos, the god of death. Together with his brother, he lives in the underworld, where Hades reigns supreme. Other stories mention that he lived on the island of Lemnos. The god is the son of Nyx (goddess of the night) and Erebus (god of darkness). The word “hypnosis” is named after him.
