According to the Gospels of Matthew and Mark, she danced at King Herod Antipas’s birthday celebration. She danced so well that Herod rewarded her by promising that she could ask for whatever she wished. At the instigation of her mother, Herodias, she asked for and received the severed head of John the Baptist on a platter as her reward.
