Walt Disney came up with the idea of the character Mickey Mouse by a mouse he saw in his office in Kansas City. Initially, the character would be named Mortimer Mouse, but Disney's wife Lillian Marie Bounds found that name too serious and not representative of the weaker population. That is why the name Mickey was chosen. Over the years, the appearance of Mickey Mouse has changed considerably. Pretty soon Disney was able to give Mickey a friendlier face. In the oldest comics, Mickey wears red shorts with large buttons. In later versions he is dressed 'normally'. He also wears gloves that he never takes off. Mickey's character also changes quite a bit; in the first stories he is predominantly a rowdy boy who often plays on strange regions. Later, Mickey becomes much more serious and also quite sensible; Mickey is often the one who knows the right solution in difficult situations.
