Jesus Christ bronzed statue

The death and resurrection of Jesus is a central theme in Christianity. The stories about this in the Gospels are the culmination of a series of stories about Jesus' passion. This story series starts with Jesus' arrival in Jerusalem for Passover. After cleansing the Jewish temple, he held the Last Supper with his twelve apostles. This was followed by his arrest, his trial and then his execution by crucifixion on the orders of the Roman prefect Pontius Pilate. Jesus was raised from the dead on the third day after his death and appeared bodily to his disciples. Forty days later Jesus' ascension took place.

The Bible says that the crucifixion of Jesus occurred after he was arrested and charged with claiming to be king of the Jews, which was considered a betrayal of the king and punishable by death. Jesus was whipped, carried his own cross all the way to Calvary were he was exicuted. At the place of execution he was stripped and then nailed to the cross. He was pierced in the side, and given a crown of thorns to wear. He hung between two thieves, and above him at the top of the cross was placed the condemnatory inscription stating his crime of professing to be King of the Jews.
