According to the gospels, on the night before his crucifixion, Jesus went into a garden or garden at the foot of the Mount of Olives to pray to God there. We know this garden as the Garden of Gethsemane. This name is derived from the Aramaic gat shemanin, meaning olive press. The garden of Gethsemane has been popular with pilgrims and pilgrims for centuries.
The garden is explicitly mentioned in the gospels of Matthew and Mark. For example, in Matthew 26 it says, from verse 36 onwards:
"Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane. He said, 'You stay here, I am going to pray there.' He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee with him. When he felt himself becoming sad and anxious, he said to them, 'I feel mortally sad; stay here with me to keep watch.'"
