Isis (Greek) or Aset (Old Egyptian Au Set) is one of the main goddesses of Egyptian mythology. First worshipped in the Nile Delta, Isis was later given a temple on the islet of Philae, among other places.
Isis, perhaps the most famous goddess of Egypt. In fact, in the centuries around the beginning of our era, she was so popular that people in all countries around the Mediterranean had heard of her. Statues of this goddess have been found throughout the Roman Empire and even beyond, from England to Afghanistan and from Sudan to the Netherlands. Sculptures of her have been unearthed everywhere. Remains of temples dedicated to her have been found in several countries. Isis was a beloved goddess. Isis was also associated with mysteries. People initiated into her cult could attain immortality, it was said.
