Boatswain's whistle (brass)
Incredibly nice and sturdy boater whistle. This is an indispensable attribute of any boater. Did you know:
- A boatswain's whistle is the boatswain's tool for communicating with the crew of a ship without raising his voice. It is still used today on naval vessels and traditional sailing vessels such as training ships.
- By holding the whistle in a certain way, the blowhole can be closed and in this way signals can be given. For the outside world the best known signal, which is given with it, is the signal that announces that a dignitary - such as the captain - is entering the port.
- The whistle can be part of the uniform worn by members of the water branch of scouting. A whistle cord is then attached to the whistle, attesting to the wearer's skill in marksmanship.
