Genghis Khan, Emperor of the Mongol Empire
Genghis Khan (pronounced [ˈdʒɛŋɡɪs ˈkɑːn]), born Temüjin on 31 May 1162 and died on 18 August 1227, was a Mongol ruler and conqueror.
Genghis Khan united the Mongol tribes and founded the largest contiguous empire in world history in terms of area. It stretched from China to the Danube River. During the campaigns under his rule, mass killings took place among the populations of conquered cities, especially in Central Asia.
The name Genghis Khan is also spelled Genghis Khan. Literally, his name means ‘Great Leader’.
