General Hannibal Barca statue
A well-known Carthaginian general was Hannibal Barkas. He is best known for his military campaigns during the Second Punic War, in which he crossed the Alps with his army, including elephants, to attack Rome.
Hannibal was the commander-in-chief of the Carthaginian army in this war against Rome.
His most remarkable achievement was the march with his army across the Alps, a huge military challenge.
Hannibal is considered one of the greatest military strategists of all time, with his tactics and surprise attacks.
He won several victories over the Romans in Italy, but was ultimately unable to conquer Rome itself.
At the end of his life, after the defeat of Carthage, he committed suicide to avoid falling into the hands of the Romans.
