A gargoyle is usually a figure carved from stone, located at the eaves of buildings. This sculpture - often a sinister representation of a devil, monster or bird of prey - serves as a rainwater drain, to prevent rainwater from flowing down the facade. Gargoyles have been used since ancient times, but are often mainly associated with Gothic architecture.
