The Cyclops is a figure from Greek mythology. Cyclopes are ferocious giants with only one eye.
In Homer's Odyssey, the hero Odysseus ends up on the Cyclops' island during one of his wanderings. He and 12 of his men are imprisoned in the cave of the cyclops Polyphemos, a son of Poseidon. Polyphemos likes something other than a leg of mutton. Every night and morning Polyphemos eats two of Odysseus' men; therefore, Odysseus devises a risky escape plan.
