The myth of Boreas and Oreithyia tells of the brutal abduction of the Athenian princess Oreithyia by Boreas, the god of the north wind, because her father refused to allow them to marry. He took her to Thrace, where they married and had children, including the winged Boreads (Calaïs and Zetes). This story symbolises the encounter between cold wind and beauty.
