Apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe
The apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe took place in 1531 on Tepeyac Hill in Mexico, where Mary appeared as a young indigenous woman to the Aztec Juan Diego. She asked for a church to be built and left an image on his tilma (cloak) as a miracle, filled with blooming roses in winter. It is an important Catholic symbol in Latin America, celebrated on 12 December.
