Luckily, the boy carries with him a secret he doesn't know about at first. Around his birth, his village of Konoha was attacked by a huge fox with nine tails. This monster was eventually defeated by the fourth Hokage and half of the monster's strength was sealed in the body of the newborn Naruto. As a result, Naruto's entire childhood is shunned by his fellow villagers. If someone is in social isolation, this can quickly lead to an embittered character. Fortunately, Naruto is anything but unsympathetic. He rather sees the attitude of the villagers as a challenge. He decides at a young age that one day he will become the new Hokage.
